Market overview
Trading activities in the Nigerian equity market closed the year 2021 with +6.07% win against +50.03% win in 2020, -14.60% loss in 2019 and -17.81% loss recorded in 2018.
Market turnover analysis revealed that the total traded volume decreased by -13.53% in 2021 against +21.69% growth in 2020 and -22.98% negative growth recorded in 2019. In addition, the total value traded decreased -16.68% in 2021 against +6.43% in 2020 and -21.52% negative ggrowth in 2019.
The market recorded 68 winners for 53 losers in 2021 compared to 57 winners for 66 losers in 2020 and 34 winners for 98 losers in 2019.

Volume and value by sector
The financial services sector outperformed other sectors with a contribution of 64.75% to the total volume traded on the Nigerian stock exchange in 2021 compared to a contribution of 68.17% recorded in 2020. The consumer goods and conglomerate sectors follow closely on the table while the healthcare sector traded the least volume of trade. .
Financial services traded 52.96 billion volumes in 20201 leading the pack, the consumer goods and conglomerate sectors came in second and third with 7.63 billion and 6.44 billion volumes traded respectively while the healthcare sector traded the least volume with 589.69 million exchanged units.

Top 10 stock trades
Analysis of equity trading volumes reveals that FBNH exceeded the volume of shares traded at 10.90 billion share units were redeemed in 2021; TRANSCORP followed by 4.95 billion units while ZENITHBANK came third with 4.39 billion units.
